Britain says hopes U.S. will honour G7 commitments on trade

Donald Trump's trade adviser has labelled Canadian premier Justin Trudeau a back-stabber unworthy of the U.S. president's time after the acrimonious end to the G7 summit.

And it remains unclear whether the USA even backs the broad sustainable development principles set out in the text, after Trump shocked diplomats by withdrawing his support for the final text in a fit of pique over Canadian Prime Minister's Justin Trudeau's comments on United States trade tariffs.

In an attack on Canada's "very dishonest and weak" Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mr Trump revealed he was tearing up the agreed communique from the G7 gathering in Charlevoix, Canada.

In his summit statement, Trudeau called US tariffs imposed on Canadian steel and aluminum imports "insulting" - a word he had used several times in the last two weeks to describe the American premise that Canada poses a national security threat to the U.S. This year, quite a bit happened like US President Donald Trump asking for Russian Federation to be readmitted to the summit although Merkel was having none of it. Russian Federation was kicked out in 2014 because of its occupation of Crimea.

Trump's trade adviser Peter Navarro also lashed out on Sunday at Trudeau's statements, saying they represent "bad faith".

Nearly 18 months into Trump's presidency, Merkel's comments offered renewed evidence of Germany's struggle to adapt to an upended relationship with the US.

Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and the other leaders clashed with Trump over steel and aluminum tariffs as well as his decision to abandon a deal with Iran to limit its nuclear program.

Trump complained on Sunday that he had been blindsided by Trudeau's criticism of his tariff threats at a summit-ending news conference.

Trump was said to have lobbied hard to have Vladimir Putin's position within the "G8 summit" restored.

Trump's proposal reflected an entirely free-trade approach to economics, which he said the leaders discussed.

"In terms of the approach that governments choose to take, Canada does not believe that ad hominem attacks are a particularly appropriate or useful way to conduct our relations with other countries".

After Trump's angry tweets, Trudeau's office issued a brief response: "We are focused on everything we accomplished here at the G7 summit". According to Trudeau, he told the president that Canadians may be polite and reasonable but they will not be pushed around and that his nation doesn't "relish" putting tariffs on USA goods and services but is willing to do so. He says that we are the problem with tariffs.

Earlier this year, Mr Trump had criticised India over import duty on the iconic Harley-Davidson motorcycles and had threatened to increase the import tariff on "thousands and thousands" of Indian motorcycles to the US.

"Canada has already raised cases at the WTO and at NAFTA, and we will retaliate", she said.

But Trudeau later contradicted the president: "We will not, can not sign a trade deal that expires every five years".

Following the G7 summit, Trump set off for Singapore to meet with North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

"We don't want to stand alone in the world", Feinstein said on CNN's State of the Union. We will also definitely go into talks with our. partners, especially Canada and Japan, and again see how we could work closer together.
