Anthony Bourdain opened up about depression battle on Parts Unknown

On Friday, Bourdain's girlfriend, Italian actress Asia Argento, 42, said she was "devastated" by his unexpected death.

Bourdain defended her viral review, which earnt the food reviewer a trip to New York City.

"Some, of course, like to claim that Mexicans are stealing American jobs", Bourdain said in 2014. But you know, I also don't have that many regrets either.

As a result of these findings, his agency wants to close the case and get Bourdain's body returned to the U.S.

Bourdain's award-winning series, "Parts Unknown", brought the world home to CNN viewers.

And, with that, it's probably safe to say that Obama spoke for all of us. "We were very surprised when we heard the news", said Schroeder. "I'm on the road about 250 days a year and I stay in a lot of lovely places and look out the window at a lot of attractive views, but I am usually alone", he said.

"I was in a cranky mood after my last restaurant closed and felt no reason not to tell the truth about a business I both love and have mixed emotions about", Bourdain told CBS2 in 1999.

On Friday morning, Bourdain again did not show up for breakfast.

Olivier Nasti, the chef and owner of Le Chambard, the luxury hotel in Kaysersberg where Bourdain took his life, paid tribute to his colleague Saturday.

Fellow celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay tweeted: "Stunned and saddened by the loss of Anthony Bourdain".

His later book, Medium Raw, reflected on his experiences as a food celebrity, although the book is much more than the musings of someone living a gilded life.

"Parts Unknown", which premiered in 2013, followed Bourdain as he traveled the world, uncovering lesser-known cuisines in unique corners of the world. However, Bourdain didn't go on Thursday night. "They said we're going to eat the same thing as Mr. Bourdain", Schroeder said.

Occasionally, Bourdain's penchant to spotlight minorities attracted a backlash.

Latinos weren't the only minority group that embraced Bourdain. Years later, Jason Wang, CEO and the son of its founder, was able to thank the chef.

Bourdain visited the Xi'an Famous Foods, which was started in the basement of a mall in Queens, for an episode of "No Reservations" in 2007. In 2015, Wang had the chance to relay his gratitude in person.

"I had several offers from other publishers that wanted to publish it, but it was a very personal email that I got from Tony at really the last hour when I needed to make a decision that put it over the top for me", he said. And he meant not just in the film industry: "Right now, nothing else matters but women's stories of what it's like in the industry I have loved and celebrated for almost 30 years".
