Body found after gator pulls woman into south Florida lake

A necropsy confirmed the gator bit Matsuki, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said in a statement.

Police in Florida are looking for a woman who a witness said was dragged into a lake by an alligator. The woman was nowhere around and a gator has been spotted in the pond.

Davie Police Detective Viviana Gallinal said the dog had a gash on its side and described it as a fresh injury.

Authorities have identified a Broward County woman who was killed by an alligator while walking her dogs in Plantation on Friday. Spokesman Robert Klepper didn't mention specific body parts but did confirm that it was Ms. Matsuki. Now, hours later, park rangers have reportedly captured the animal, according to Sun Sentinel. Dale Engle told the SunSentinel Friday morning as the search began.

The FWC responded to the scene with trappers and worked for hours to catch the gator.

A 12-foot, 6-inch alligator was later removed from the lake by a trapper hired by the FWC.

Police are still searching for the woman's body and despite the arm being found it is still not known if the animal is responsible for the woman's death.

"This tragedy is heartbreaking for everyone involved, and our honest condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim at this time", the FCW said in a statement.

"I was afraid", she said. It was too risky to send divers into the lake.

"It could have been one of us", said Patricia Ramsaran.

Seemingly calm in its restricted state, the gator chose to fight back one last time once it felt its body leave the ground and reach the truck's bed.

Soon after, he saw the two dogs without the woman and one dog appeared to be severely injured. I'm out here all the time with my kids and my husband.

Despite the fact that children have been seen swimming in the lake from time to time, residents say it's a unsafe area, WSVN reported.

Edwin Gomez, an area resident, was horrified to hear an alligator may be behind a woman's disappearance at this Davie park. They think a gator took her under the woman when she was walking her dogs. Her son threw bread into the water for the fish, and the alligator got the bread.

There have been 401 unprovoked alligator bites between 1948 and 2017, the commission said, and of those 24 resulted in fatalities.
