Amazon Fire TV Cube official, combines Echo with set-top box

Commanding televisions with voice isn't new ground, for Amazon or the industry. But it can actually do quite a bit more than a Fire TV dongle.

"Like a trustworthy best friend, Alexa helps you nail your look every time", said Linda Ranz, director of Echo product management. Amazon's Fire TV Cube, it combines Echo, streaming box, and universal remote into one device for easy access and usage. The same ease-of-use in voice commands applies to finding content on your cable channels as well - you can tell Alexa to "tune to NBC" or change to a specific channel, and she'll handle the rest. They can simply give Alexa commands to power the TV on and off, change the channels, adjust the volume, change the cable channel and more. The Fire TV Cube, however, is more like a set-top box and sits in front of your screen. Apart from controlling your TV and streaming your favorite show, the Cube can also fetch weather information or even let you control the smart devices.

Fire TV Cube is the first hands-free streaming media player with Alexa, delivering an all-in-one entertainment experience.

The smart streamer also supports 4K content at 60fps as well as HDR content. "We had to rethink the concept to honor French language and culture". The Fire TV Cube will begin shipping on June 21. It even integrates with your cable TV box from leading providers such as Comcast, DISH and DIRECTV.

There will be more to the story, so be sure to stay tuned in for more details. She says Amazon has an "interesting roadmap" ahead with regards to antenna support, and the company is "looking at improving our products down the line" in the remote area.

Alexa is one of the most popular and powerful personal assistants. The devices became available in Germany and Austria earlier this year. Below this question was a link for interested customers to sign up "to learn more".

That's made life hard for premium streaming boxes like the Apple TV, which sells for $150 and up.

Amazon shares ended the US Tuesday trading session 1.87% higher at $1,696.35. Then imagine that control plugged into your TV so you can control everything plugged in there with your voice as well. "We think this is enough of a game-changer that customers are really going to like it".
