Asus ZenBook Pro offers 5.5-inch touchscreen LCD trackpad

Are you a techie who knows how to write?

The ZenBook S features up to an incredibly sharp 4K touchscreen display covering 100% of the sRGB color space and an incredible 1500:1 contrast ratio. As mentioned, its 5.5-inch width is smartphone sized and the 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution is surprisingly generous. When not in use, owners can switch the Screenpad off to save battery, utilising it the same as an ordinary touchpad.

ASUS also tipped the existence of "Project Precog", which is a laptop which completely replaces the keyboard with a secondary screen. Now have some PR. One of the most exciting reveals of the week happens to be from ASUS, which showed off both a new Zenbook Pro 15 which has a second screen in place of the touchpad and also a dual-screen Precog laptop.

ScreenPad features adaptive functions with context-sensitive tools to enhance workflow and productivity and is fully customizable to allow users to personalize their experience.

New VivoBook models include VivoBook S15 (S530) and VivoBook S14 (S430), a pair of stylish and lightweight notebooks available in a choice of five vibrant colors and several textured finishes, ASUS said. Probably the standout product of the new mix is the ZenBook Pro 15 with ScreenPad Windows PTP (Precision Touch Pad).

With all the new ScreenPad features, it could be easy to forget that this is still a professionally targeted notebook (in many aspects, but not all).

The laptop will come with either an Intel Core i7-8550U or Core i5-8250U quad-core processor, up to 16Gb of RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe SSD storage.

Any concerns about video performance go out the window; the ZenBook Pro is armed with GTX 1050 Ti graphics.

Touchpads have always been a staple of laptops since their introduction in 1992 but since then, besides better accuracy and accompanying gesture-based software support, there just hasn't been much innovation. The screen can be used to interact with some default Windows apps like MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Besides, the company has added few dedicated programs called ScreenPad Apps that work only on the ScreenPad. The company will release a ScreenPad SDK for developers that want to create new apps or if they want to get their app supported by the ScreenPad.

The 2018 Zenbook Pro series from Asus features a touchpad/touchscreen hybrid. The display's 178° viewing angles suggest that it's an IPS panel.

Along with the onstage announcements, Asus also showcased additional feature products in the press event demo area.

However, there's something more; the ZenBook Pro not only boasts high-performance power in a small package, but something new, and never-before-seen. I speculated this would probably be similar to Apple's MacBook Pro Touch Bar. On the connectivity front, the notebook includes USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3 ports, gigabit-class Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0. It even has a full-sized HDMI port that allows it to be conveniently connected to TVs and projectors using widely available HDMI cables.
