Willian backs Fred to shine at Manchester United

Manchester United have today revealed that they have agreed on a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk to bring Brazilian midfielder Fred to the club.

Brazilian midfielder Fred, 25, who is expected to sign for Manchester United on Wednesday, was the surprise choice in Tite's World Cup squad for Russian Federation. He stayed in England's north west to undergo his medical at United.

United boss Jose Mourinho had a need to strengthen his midfield since the retirement of Michael Carrick and with uncertainly over the future of Marouane Fellaini.

Brazil legend Rivaldo has backed £52million Fred to be a success at Manchester United.

United revealed the news in a brief statement on their official website, promising a further announcement "in due course".

Fred is in Brazil's World Cup squad and appeared as an 82nd-minute substitute for his country as they beat Croatia 2-0 in a friendly at Anfield on Sunday.

Fred moved to Donetsk in 2013 and was a part of three league-winning sides.

"If I was a club manager, I would be looking to sign him".

After passing the exams and even signing the contract, Fred posed for photos and videos with the Manchester United shirt last Monday.

The question remains, however, will Mourinho's big spending really make a dent on the gulf between the Red Devils and Man City next season?

"I don't have any more to say about my club because now I want to have focus here with the national team on the World Cup". I am proud of him.' Lucescu said.

Even Ukraine's most capped player and former Bayern Munich player, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, spent nine seasons with Shakhtar.
