'Star Wars's Kelly Marie Tran deletes Instagram posts, fan harassment suspected

Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran has deleted all her Instagram posts after harassment from followers on the social media platform.

The only thing that remains on her Instagram account?

After Tran, who is Vietnamese-American, arrived in the spotlight following her starring role in the second movie of the new Star Wars trilogy past year, she has been targeted with abuse on both Instagram and Twitter.

On Tuesday, the official "Star Wars" Twitter tweeted a "Happy Birthday" wish to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and some fans were quick to attack her in replies. The actress made history as the first woman of color to play a lead role in the franchise.

"The more I read about teenage anxiety, the more I think it's highly unhealthy for people's mental health."

With the many Instagram, Twitter and Facebook trolls lurking in the shadows, the world of social media can turn into trash really fast.

We like & dislike stuff but we do it with humor, love & respect.

In December, the Rose Tico page of the Star Wars-oriented reference site Wookieepedia (modelled after the user-generated Wikipedia) was altered by an unknown user into a melange of racist statements. We're the VAST majority, we're having fun & doing just fine'.

Whatever the reason for not liking the character, though, the fact that many of these people have taken their anger out on Kelly Marie Tran by persistently harassing her on her personal social media account is truly callous.

Kelly had previously been lauded over her candid, relateable posts such as comparing herself before and after the polish of glam squads and retouching in magazine spreads.

You can check out some of the tweets in support for Tran below! "I still don't believe I'm doing it", Tran said a year ago upon the film's release. That is not what I signed up for. "(I honestly just wrote this in my journal as a reminder to myself, because hey, I'm mostly a strong person, but life happens, and I'm still figuring it out as I go.)".
