Leroy Sané left out of Germany's World Cup squad

The defending champions and perennial dark horses had both named provisional squads in recent weeks, but made the card calls and announced their final panels ahead of Tuesday's Federation Internationale de Football Association deadline.

Manchester City winger Sane was expected to travel to Russian Federation after an impressive campaign that concluded with him being named the PFA Young Player of the Year.

In a surprise omission, coach Joachim Loew left Manchester City striker Leroy Sane out of his 23-player list despite a strong season with the Premier League champions. "Draxler Reus and Müller are set".

Walker wrote: "When you find out Leroy Sane isn't going to the World Cup".

"Leroy has a huge talent and he'll be there again, and we'll have to work more with him again from September onwards".

Low reportedly said that it was a very close call between Brandt and Sane - with Brandt getting the go ahead to pack his bags - and this is the reason.

"That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favour of Brandt", Low explained. "If it was a 100 metre race, it would have been a photo finish".

And Sane responded with: "Well you're lucky that you don't have to play me, bro".

Germany takes on Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in Group F, as Germany look to defend the World Cup which they won in 2014.
