Wildwood police release body camera footage of controversial beach arrest

Jersey's police department released bodycam footage showing the dramatic arrest of a woman on a beach during Memorial Day weekend.

An attorney for Weinman tells CBS3 this new video doesn't change anything and that it's not consistent with what Wildwood has claimed, that she was the aggressor.

Weinman was arrested on Saturday and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault by spitting bodily fluids at/on a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstruction and minor in possession of alcohol.

In the video, the officer tells a superior that he hit Weinman after she had kicked him, although it's hard to see Weinman's legs in the video.

Troiano said the officers' body camera footage will show a different story, including the woman's spitting at the officers and kicking one in the groin.

The point in the video where the officer says "That's it", before striking Weinman was not an indication that he meant to hurt her, officials said. "She chose to take on the police". "She probably would have just gotten a citation".

As Weinman shouts for her boyfriend, she turns around and slams an officer in the chest, which police say caused his camera to turn off. After a back and forth between Weinman and the officer, Weinman refuses to give the officer her full name.

She said she shared the video - which has been shared more than 130,000 times online - because the "situation was handled wrongly and blew out of proportion". The officer then says, "You're about to get dropped". The officer can be heard saying "that's it" before striking Weinman in the head, She is handcuffed and walked to a police vehicle.

"Officers have to use only the modicum of force necessary to effect a lawful arrest".

FOX 29 stopped by an address we believe to be Weinman's to ask her about the new video. "The officers were on top of her on the ground and that's when I just decided - there's so much going on everywhere - why not, just in case [record the incident]".

Wildwood posted three video clips of the incident to YouTube. "They're choking me. I can not breathe".

"My daughter is right here seeing this", she said. The officer tries to grab Weinman, who backed away from him.

In a Monday Facebook post, which has since been taken down, Weinman admitted to possessing alcohol, but that she hadn't been drinking. The mayor of the beach town, meanwhile, vehemently defended the police and said the woman is no angel.
