The Rockets Must Adjust to Life Without Chris Paul

May 27, 2018, 03:28

Chris Paul did his best Steph Curry shimmy dance after hitting a shot in his face during the Houston Rockets' Game 5 win against the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors insisted they weren't anxious Thursday night when they lost Game 5 to the Houston Rockets and were pushed to the brink of elimination.

"I feel great about where we are right now", Kerr told reporters at the end of the game, according to ESPN. "If he isn't, it's time for somebody else to step up".

The injury occurred with around 50 seconds left in Game 5.

The Rockets will be without star guard Chris Paul because of a strained hamstring.

Green produced a costly turnover in their final possession of the game with just 6.2 seconds to go in the fourth quarter.

"We don't want to come and be pouting around", he said.

It would seem that under this circumstance, D'Antoni should still absolutely start Paul but then see how the game is flowing. The Warriors trail the Rockets, 3-2, in the best-of-seven series. He and Harden form the best backcourt in the National Basketball Association, and without him, the Rockets will need Harden to snap out of his funk (Harden shot 23.8 percent from the field and 0-11 from three in Game 5) and others to step up versus a very good defensive Warriors' team.

The Rockets have leaned heavily on Paul and James Harden en route to being a win away from the NBA Finals.

There was Paul on Thursday night, carrying the Houston Rockets in the third quarter, with an array of improbable shots, most notably a double-pump three-pointer as the shot clock expired. The only question now is if the Rockets will return home as Western Conference champs or with a Game 7 against Golden State on deck. But playing only six guys seems untenable given Golden State's ability to apply pressure, especially on the road. Now that Paul is hurt, they'll be facing a different Rockets' team than the one that has threatened to dethrone their dynasty.
