Dad forgot baby was in car, left on business trip

Metro Nashville Police said a 1-year-old girl died after she was left in a hot pick up truck all day on Wednesday.

"Adoptive father reportedly forgot about the child after dropping off her sibling at daycare", police wrote. They say he drove home, and left the girl in her auto seat.

The girl's adoptive mother, Jenny Barker, left the home and drove to work in her own vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt Hospital.

Authorities say the parents had recently adopted the girl.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to WSMV, temperatures were in the 80s in Nashville on Wednesday.

A one-year-old has died after she was left in her auto seat inside a truck for an entire day.

Jenny Barker then telephoned her husband.

The child was pronounced dead when she was taken to Vanderbilt Hospital. It was there that she was told that Katera was never dropped off. Over the past two decades, an estimated 37 children have died of heat stroke each year in the United States, according to the website. So the temperature inside the truck could have reached almost 120 degrees.

Following the hot-car death in Tennessee, NewsChannel 5 reported that the child was recently adopted by the Barkers and celebrated her 1st birthday with them. In such cases, the person can experience heat stroke - becoming dizzy, disoriented and confused, feeling worn out or falling into a coma, according to the National Institutes of Health.

No charges are being filed at this time, police said.
