RED's Hydrogen One will be available at AT&T and Verizon this summer

Like we said details about the phone are scarce but apparently it will feature a mysterious holographic display and camera capable of recording 3D video.

RED first opened preorders for the Hydrogen One last July with early adopters getting a discount on the steep price tag down to $1,200. And now we know that the RED Hydrogen One smartphone from RED will be made available by the two largest USA carriers, AT&T and Verizon. The 5.7-inch phone's major feature is a holographic display that can project 3D images. We also know the phone will be compatible with modules similar to how the Moto Z or Essential Phone operate.

"This is the single most exciting thing I have ever worked on", said Red founder Jim Jannard in a prepared statement.

AT&T and Verizon announced their plans to sell the handsets manufactured by Red in separate announcements on May 17.

That news is an important vote of confidence in Red's technology, suggesting that the company believes it has the potential to become a viable channel for content.

By the way, Verizon's VP of Device and Product Marketing, Brian Higgins, says you have to hold this bad boy in your hands and "experience it yourself to understand why it's such a mobile game changer". "A phone like this deserves the best network in the country, which is why we can't wait to bring it to Verizon customers later this year".

AT&T will offer consumers the first public look at the phone at the AT&T Shape event on June 2-3 at Warner Bros. RED is no longer taking pre-orders, which had been priced at $1295 for an aluminum version and $1595 for a titanium model. Neither carrier listed a specific launch date, with AT&T saying only that the phone would be available "later this summer".
