HTC Has A Blockchain-powered Phone In The Works

There's no details yet on pricing or availability, but the Exodus looks like it will pack some highly powerful software created to provide a secure blockchain experience.

HTC might be the first smartphone-maker to introduce the "world's first native blockchain phone" called the HTC Exodus.

The Exodus will feature a universal wallet and a built-in secure hardware enclave to support cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications.

Previously, Chen was heading up HTC's Virtual Reality headset project. Regarding the former, the Exodus will support Bitcoin and Ethereum (for now), with support for other digital currencies to follow at a later date.

HTC's yet to announce pricing for its Exodus phone, but when it does go on sale, customers will be able to purchase it using, you guessed it, cryptocurrency.

HTC has been struggling in the smartphone space and it is hard to imagine the justification of it launching a Block-chain powered phone. It will be launched later this year at a price of $999 (although those paying with Sirin's own cryptocurrency get a 10% discount). It's quite likely that the future phones will be readied with blockchain and generic cryptocurrency compatibility in mind. The goal, he said, is to build a phone that supports a decentralized system.

HTC has become the first major producer of smartphones to bring a product to market with dedicated blockchain encryption. The announcement comes nearly one week before the launch of its latest flagship, the HTC U12.

Another big focus for Exodus is DApps, with HTC hoping that the device will increase the user base of Decentralized Apps by featuring a friendly and "streamlined user experience". Huawei has hopped on to blockchain bandwagon by hosting a bitcoin wallet on its phones. The company said that it will offer enhanced security and data protection.
