Improving temperatures for Mother's Day & work week

Batten down the hatches.

Heat continues through the rest of the weekend.

And the news is not good for moms, either. Mother's Day looks cooler and damp with more scattered showers and highs in the lower 70s. A slight breeze out of the southwest at 10-13 miles per hour will make it feel slightly better outside.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 78.

This could get fairly hairy.

The wet weather is set to stick around through Sunday and on to Monday, and MetService is urging Kiwis to keep on an eye on forecasts for more weather warnings.

The storm was also responsible for a house fire in Grand Island when lightning struck a home at 3204 Knights Road.

More scattered storms will be possible on Monday as a front remains stalled over northeast Kansas. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain.

THIS AFTERNOON - Partly Sunny with Strong Storms Developing into the Evening. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 miles per hour.

Best chance of rain will be tonight and Saturday night. Patchy fog after 3 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 50%. There is a small chance for showers, but these will remain isolated. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s. Winds from the southeast will run between 10 to 15 knots, contributing to a moderate chop on the intracoastal waterway.

Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Another round develops near I-80 later this evening and will track to the east overnight. This was because of an easterly wind. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Although Saturday will not be a washout, there could be several rounds of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.

TONIGHT - A Gusty T-storm, then Cloudy. Light and variable wind.
