Mumbai: Maharashtra Police official Himanshu Roy shot himself in mouth after getting frustrated with his disease - Cancer.

He was reportedly suffering from bone marrow cancer and was on medical leave. "He had also taken radiation therapy earlier", Dr. Nagarkar said, adding like all patients going through hard illnesses, Roy was taking counselling therapy. Everyone ran to his room when they heard the gunshot.

He was declared "brought dead" to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mourned the shocking suicide by Roy. "Roy was a dedicated police officer".

Roy became an Indian Police Service officer of the Maharashtra Cadre 1988 batch.

Leading investigations into several high-profile cases, Roy had an imposing figure and a charismatic personality.

He also investigated the murder of Mumbai lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha, who was brutally killed at her apartment in central Mumbai.

Himanshu Roy was involved in the murder investigation of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, who was murdered by a gang linked to Chhota Rajan, the notorious Mumbai gangster and the subject of Bollywood movies like Vaastav and Company.

Roy had a stellar career graph, having handled two of the most important police postings in Mumbai - joint commissioner of police (crime) and chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad.

Often referred to as "Arnold Schwarzenegger" of Mumbai Police, Roy is survived by his mother and wife. "It would be wrong to say Roy committed suicide because of cancer". "Cancer treatment causes side effects such as hair loss hair and facial changes, limiting a patient's social interaction". "It is a highly painful procedure and could breakdown even a strong person like Himanshu Roy, who was known for his passion for body building".

He was the youngest SP of Nasik (Rural) in 1995. Later, he headed the Economic Offenses wing in Mumbai, was Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and also headed the Cyber Crime Cell.
