Google will require that phone makers roll out monthly security updates

In May 2018, Google showed that its digital assistant could mimic a human over the phone with pauses, "ums" and "uhs".

We open up too many apps on Android like we open up too many tabs on Chrome, and there was a handy solution: the "Clear All" button that closes all of open apps.

If there was one theme underlying most of Google's keynote, it was that Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning advancements from the company were going to drive most of its products.

The Google Home Mini 2-pack normally costs $78, but you can save $20 and get the bundle for only $58. To counter this ongoing issue, Google made mention during its "What's New In Android Security" session at this year's I/O that it will soon be requiring OEMs to push regular security updates to devices. The Android P beta will be available for Google's own Pixel devices, and also smartphones from seven other OEMs.

The Android P official beta is finally here.

Google will use augmented reality to help guide you to your destination. The search bar in Google will also support diversified links to apps. These devices and smart assistants are already being piloted in professional environments to accelerate creativity and productivity.

Google Duplex is an experimental AI system and was introduced at the Google I/O 2018 earlier this week. It can also convert photos to PDFs and automatically add color to black-and-white photos or make part of a color photo black and white. When the device is placed face down, a new feature will put the device on hold and silence it so the user can center on other things.

Then there was the announcement around Gmail which will now have a "Smart Compose" feature, again powered by AI, ready to complete your sentence before you even type them in, and understanding the context of your email. A Wind Down Mode feature can let users enter the time they want to go to bed. With Multiple Actions, which is already starting to roll out, the Google Assistant will be able to understand more complex queries like "What's the weather like in NY and in Austin?" And "Wind Down Mode" will fade the screen to grayscale at a designated bed time to help you disconnect before bed.

Debates quickly started over whether people answering phones should be told when they are speaking to human-sounding software and how the technology might be abused in the form of more convincing "robocalls" by marketers or political campaigns. With these new voice options, users will now be able to choose between four different female voices, and four different male voices.
