SHERLOCK HOLMES / AVATAR Rematch Scheduled For 2020

It's been seven years since the last film, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and nine years since the actors first played Sherlock and Dr. Watson respectively in 2009's Sherlock Holmes.

We know that writer Chris Brancato (the series "Drug", "Hannibal" and "the x-files") will write the script.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are ready for their next mystery. More details to come as the film moves closer to production.

One of the big names though missing from the announcement was Guy Ritchie though as director.

Although there wasn't a reason stated for why it took so long for Warner reveal a release date for Sherlock Holmes 3, the schedule of its stars could have potentially been a factor.

After almost a decade between installments, Warner Bros' Sherlock Holmes franchise will continue. While Guy Ritchie's more action-oriented approach perhaps didn't appeal to everyone, it still proved popular at the box office with both films collectively making around $1 Billion.

Back in March Robert Downey Jr hinted at Sherlock Holmes 3 when he had said during an interview that they are looking at another Sherlock Holmes. But circumstances will be different this time: Avatar and its 3D format won't be such a novelty, while Sing 2 and an as-yet untitled Disney live-action film will be releasing in the same window.

Also opening on December 25 that year is Illumination/Universal's Sing 2 as well as an untitled Disney live action film on December 23.
