Archaeologists Searched For Hidden Chambers In Tutankhamun's Tomb - Here's What They Found

The search for secret chambers began after British archaeologist Nicholas Reeves, studying the images of the tomb in high resolution, found under the plaster something he felt the vague outlines of doors. Now, the most conclusive study to date has weighed in on the controversial theory. He even argued the long-lost body of the infamous queen could still be lying within the secret passage since her remains have never been found.

The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities announced in a Facebook post on Sunday that it could conclusively deny the existence of hidden rooms behind the walls of the boy king's funeral chamber.

Following these big claims, three separate archaeological teams have beamed radar surveys at the tomb in the hopes of uncovering the truth.

Researchers have been using radar imaging to uncover the truth.

This means that the radar waves could have travelled along the walls before returning to the receiver, showing not a hidden chamber, but the very room in which the researchers were scanning. If a certain portion of natural rock wall appears to be thinner, it could suggest the presence of a human-made blocking wall, added sometime after the initial structure was constructed.

There is huge global interest in Nefertiti, who died in the 14th century BC and is thought to be Tutankhamen's stepmother. The technology that was used by the team simply did not find any data that would indicate the existence of a chamber.

Artefacts to be shown in new museumThe stone sarcophagus containing the mummy of King Tut is seen in his underground tomb in the famed Valley of the Kings in Luxor.

On Saturday, Tutankhamun's sixth and last historic military chariot was moved from a military museum in Cairo to the under-construction Grand Egyptian Museum near the Pyramid complex in Giza, which is scheduled to display about 4,500 new and unique pieces of the boy king after its opening later in 2018.

Tutankhamun was Pharaoh of Egypt during the New Kingdom period, a golden age in Egyptian history.
