Salah scoops FWA Player of the Year award

Premier League leading scorer Mohamed Salah says he's insulted over the representation of his image amid a dispute with the Egyptian Football Association ahead of the World Cup in Russian Federation in June.

Salah was presented with a token of recognition ahead of training on Monday - and was joined by the rest of his teammates, and manager Jürgen Klopp, in celebrating the accolade. Tottenham's Harry Kane finished in third.

With referee Andre Marriner failing to spot the incident during the game, it was the job of the FA's disciplinary committee to take a closer look at it and decide if Salah deserved to be retrospectively banned.

With 43 goals in all competitions this season, he became the first Liverpool player to reach the 40-goal mark since Ian Rush in 1986-87.

Mo Salah has been named Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year.

Salah is only the second non-European player to scoop the FWA prize after former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez - and the first African victor.

Salah narrowly beat Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne in a ballot of over 400 FWA members, with the winning margin less than 20 votes.

The 25-year-old, who will characterize his nation at this summer time's World Cup in Russian Federation, netted a brace within the first leg which completed 5-2 to Jurgen Klopp's facet.

According to reports, Liverpool will offer Salah a new five-year deal worth £185,000 a week, tying him to Anfield until the summer of 2023 and keeping their talisman at the club until his 30th birthday.

He may also by that point have broken the record for goals scored in a 38-game season of the English Premier League, which he is now tying with 31 strikes. "This is one very important step for us".

But Salah believes talk of him winning the Ballon d'Or is unjustified due to his recent two-game goal drought. He's competing against Christian Eriksen's screamer and Dele Alli's first goal against Chelsea, Ayoze Perez's lob against Leicester City and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's brilliant finish of a team goal against Southampton.
