Texas Teen Matin Azizi-Yarand Arrested For Planning Mall Shooting Spree

Matin Azizi-Yarand, a Plano West Senior High School student, allegedly planned the ISIS-inspired attack at Stonebriar Centre for mid-May.

Azizi-Yarand, who lives with his mother and father in Plano, is now in jail with a $3 million bond, facing life in prison if convicted of criminal solicitation and up to 10 years for making a terroristic threat.

A Texas teen is accused of trying to recruit others for an ISIS-inspired plot to commit a mass shooting at a local mall.

WFAA reported that in one of the online chats, Azizi-Yarand said he wanted act as a lone wolf and preferred to wait until he was 18-years-old to carry out the attack so he was old enough to purchase a rifle.

Azizi-Yarand is said to have spent $1,400 on weapons and tactical gear for his attack. Matin Azizi-Yarand has been taken into custody and charged with terrorism for plotting an attack at the Stonebriar Centre in Frisco. He'd also written and planned to distribute a "Message to America" explaining the attack. "(Arabic for "disbelievers")", Azizi-Yarand told the Federal Bureau of Investigation source, according to the affidavit.

"I'd like to thank the FBI's North Texas Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Frisco and Plano Police Departments for their efforts in this case and their vigilance in protecting the citizens of Collin County". Azizi-Yarand said he learned the mall's layout and had been observing patrons and onsite security. "Then, douse him with gasoline and burn him".

"Federal law limits our ability to certify a juvenile as an adult for prosecution, and in light of that, we determined that state prosecution of the subject will best address the case", U.S. Attorney Joseph Brown said in a statement.

"This case exemplifies the wide reach terrorist groups have through social media and other means", said Chief Gregory Rushin of the Plano Police Department, "to radicalize others in communities across our country".

Message gets across to the kuffar (Arabic for "disbelievers"). Officials were alerted to the plan when they found Yarand's "manifesto", that gave more information to the planned attack. "I want to put America in the state that Europe is in, which is having to have soldiers deployed in streets".

Azizi-Yarand is now being held at the Collin County Detention Center on $3 million bail.
