Dangling auto not part of authorized movie shoot: Toronto police

Police believe a prank is behind the discovery of a vehicle dangling from a bridge near the Don Valley Parkway on Wednesday morning, puzzling police and pedestrians below. The interior of the vehicle appeared "rigged" in some way, according to one reporter at the scene, and its glass and engine had been removed.

Video from the CTV Toronto helicopter showed the vehicle slowly spinning in the wind, supported by two of the bridge's beams.

It's now being treated as a mischief investigation, and Sidhu said police believe it was intended as some sort of prank. Caroline de Kloet describing what happens next as a "waiting game".

Toronto emergency services first got the call just after 7 a.m.

City spokesperson Shane Gerard confirmed to the Star that the city did not issue a filming permit. A southbound lane of the Don Valley Parkway was blocked at Millwood Road.

Kwong said he called 911 out of concern for public safety, since the area underneath the dangling auto included hiking trails that are popular with dog-walkers.

Emergency services managed to get the vehicle down on the ground by 10:30 a.m.

Toronto Mayor John Tory told the media that he could not understand the incident. "I was just shaking my head in disbelief", he told reporters. 'If it's a prank, then obviously the law should apply to people who are doing things like that'.

The prank theory is not unfounded. In 2001 engineering students at the University of British Columbia suspended a red Volkswagen beetle - outfitted with a Canadian flag - from San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.
