Ashley Judd suing Harvey Weinstein

Ashley Judd sued Harvey Weinstein on Monday, saying the former movie mogul hurt her acting career in retaliation for her rejecting his sexual advances. I am suing for economic remedy due to damage done to my career as a result of sexual harassment. "My career opportunities, after having been defamed by Harvey Weinstein, were significantly diminished".

She claims to have met with Jackson and Walsh in or around 1998 to discuss two different roles in the film, but the pair "dropped their pursuit" of her for the project after Weinstein told them the studio had "a bad experience" working with Judd, according to the lawsuit. My career was damaged because I rebuffed Mr. Weinstein's sexual advances.

"With those baseless smears, Weinstein succeeded in blacklisting Ms. Judd and destroying her ability to work on what became a multibillion-dollar franchise with 17 Academy Award wins and many more nominations", the suit states.

"If this isn't an example of unfair business practice then I don't know what is", Judd's lawyer Thomas Boutrous told the Times.

The 50-year-old actress - who was one of the first women to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment - read an open letter during an event in NY hosted by the Tribeca Film Festival and the Time's Up movement, which was promoting equality in the workplace.

"It's very upsetting, you know", she said. "It was a special time to be invited into the offices".

"I said no, a lot of ways, a lot of times, and he always came back at me with some new ask", she said, according to that October 2017 New York Times report.

The suit says Weinstein lorded the Oscar statement over Judd for years afterward when he saw her in public.

Judd, a leading member of the "Time's Up" movement against sexual harassment in the workplace, is seeking unspecified damages and a jury trial.

A spokesperson for the movie executive told The New Yorker in a prior statement: "Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein".
