Should Everton target disgruntled Chelsea captain Gary Cahill?

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has grown exhausted of having to prove himself after being dropped by manager Antonio Conte for several key matches this season.

And while Conte acknowleges is has taken more than just one player to replace the void left by Terry, the Italian boss believes Cahill's recent performances should see him reinstated to Gareth Southgate's first-choice XI after having been omitted from England's friendlies in March.

The French side appointed former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo in November and is ready to bolster the 2016-17 league champions with a number of Blues' stars. He's in good physical condition.

"We are talking about an important player for Chelsea".

These attributes were in evidence at Wembley last weekend when Chelsea beat Southampton 2-0 to advance to the FA Cup final and Cahill also put in a robust display, galvanising his team as they'd ground out a 2-1 win away at Burnley in a league match three days prior to the Saints game.

Meanwhile, Conte says it is unfair to criticise the club for selling Mo Salah after the Liverpool winger emerged as the outstanding player in English football this season. He has played big competitions.

Conte said: "I think Gary is deserving to play - to play and then to have the chance to go and play in the World Cup".

'This season has been important for players to try to take on leadership. I think Gary developed a lot this year'. "He has to make the best choices for the national team and I'm sure he'll make the right decision".
