New York Giants' 2018 draft: Analysis for every selection

Barkley said he "fell in love with this place" on his private visit, meeting people inside the Giants' facility and seeing the four Lombardi Trophies behind glass.

Dave Gettleman got a laugh when asked his thoughts on his six picks after finishing his first draft as general manager of the New York Giants. He had hoped that Barkley would be drafted by the Jets (his favorite team) or the Giants to stay close to home. But it was obvious that Gettleman wasn't sold on any of this year's quarterbacks as the flawless prospect. "I want to see the things that he does, the way he takes care of his body, what time he's in, what time he's out and try to compete with him, obviously". I think he's going to be a role model for his generation. The Bears and the Buccaneers identified their franchise quarterbacks in recent drafts, and the Browns, after years of dysfunction, believed they found theirs on Thursday, when they took Mayfield.

My feeling coming into the draft was that Gettleman should have taken a quarterback, especially if Darnold and Josh Rosen were available.

In other words: The running back position is making a strong comeback during the 2018 NFL Draft. He has incredible strength, great hands despite a lack of length, plays with a base, and brings a nastiness to the trenches.

Barkley is shying away from comparisons to other top National Football League running backs. He has thought this plan out very carefully, and his every move has been made with an eye toward building a team capable of winning a championship.

Gettleman said the Giants tried to trade up to get him and could not get a deal done. "I've been thinking about it since then".

Barkley's new teammate Odell Beckham, Jr. already has bigger dreams for where Penn State's golden boy can go in the next year: the number one selling jersey in America. "I was watching Saquon". "And you know there's going to be a lot of things thrown your way and thrown in your face, but you've got to keep that mentality and keep that focus".

How good is Barkley?

In case you're wondering, No. 26, Barkley's number at Penn State, will likely be open with the Giants.
