Inventor who tortured, killed and BEHEADED reporter on board 'home-made submarine' JAILED

A verdict in the gruesome murder of 30-year-old journalist Kim Wall is finally in and Danish inventor Peter Madsen has been found guilty of the crime.

The charges against Madsen, 47, included murder, indecent handling of a corpse and "sexual relations other than intercourse of a particularly risky nature".

Copenhagen City Court Judge Anette Burkoe and two jurors unanimously agreed that Wall's death was a murder and that Madsen was also guilty of sexual assault and the defilement of a corpse.

The court ruled that Madsen should stay in jail until his appeal hearing at the Western High Court in Copenhagen out of fear Madsen can influence witnesses.

Wall, 30, had disappeared in mid-August 2017 after boarding Madsen's submarine while researching a story. No sign of Wall was found until some of her remains washed ashore.

Before the jury deliberations, Madsen was asked if he had any last words before jury members came to a verdict.

He admitted dismembering Wall's body and throwing her remains overboard, an offence punishable by six months in prison but denied killing her.

He listened quietly as the verdict was read, looking down at the desk in front of him. In Denmark, a life sentence averages about 16 years.

Both are considered the harshest penalties in Danish law.

Madsen will be the 25th person to now serving a life sentence in the Nordic nation, which has a reputation as tranquil and safe.

The question of forvaring or a life sentence arose based on Madsen's mental examination, which concluded that he remains risky, has psychotic traits, appears unfeeling and untrustworthy, suffers from lack of empathy and is highly sexually deviant. And two women testified that Madsen had confessed to them that he might be a psychopath.

Madsen has changed his story about Wall's death several times.

Madsen claimed Wall died from breathing exhaust gases that had leaked into the submarine due to a technical error while he was on the deck preparing to submerge.

An autopsy report concluded she probably died as a result of suffocation or having her throat slit.

During the trial, which took place over the past seven weeks, the prosecution presented evidence that Madsen had premeditated the assault and killing, including over 40 violent video clips found on his laptop during a search-including the torture and decapitation of women. He originally claimed the journalist was killed by a metal hatch slamming shut on her inside the submarine, then said she died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Madsen's lawyer said he would appeal.

Wall graduated from Columbia University and the London School of Economics and was based in Beijing and NY.

He claimed a vacuum effect prevented him from opening the hatch to rescue Wall, who was screaming for help, Madsen said, according to the New York Post.

The case has captivated Denmark and drawn global headlines, with its shocking and gruesome details, and Madsen's wildly shifting explanations for what happened.
