First victim of Humboldt Broncos crash to be buried on Thursday

Classes resumed in Humboldt on Tuesday, where five of the players attended school.

Students at Georgian College and schools right across the region are being encouraged to wear green. Greg Chatlain, director of education for the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, said the outpouring of support has been incredible.

"You're just on that bus so much", said Latta. They come from an age group that is staring at mortality long before it should.

"Some have lost a local hero".

Louise Rellis, the event's organizer, said she was devastated when she heard about the crash. Twelve remain in hospital, four of them in critical condition. "He was telling us.and something like this really hits home".

"We were the first ones there and the last ones to leave", he said.

"It was chaos", he said.

Nick Shumlanski suffered an injured shoulder and a chipped vertebra from the crash.

A photograph will be taken of everyone present linking hands, the image being inspired by a picture of three crash survivors taken in hospital.

One of the deceased players had previously been identified as Xavier Labelle, however that was incorrect and Xavier is not deceased.

Parker Tobin, 18, was a goaltender for the Humboldt Broncos, after previously playing with the Drayton Valley Thunder during the 2016-17 season and the Spruce Grove Saints the following season.

Her family said she will be remembered for her smile and her love of sports. Retired RCMP collision analyst Rob Creasser said that months of work lie ahead for the collision investigators as they analyze and reconstruct the circumstances that led up to and caused the collision.

He also said he was lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries.

Victims' families were directed to Nipawin Apostolic Church for information and support. The fundraiser has passed the $6.7 million mark, shattering its most recent goal of $4 million.

The moving gesture of putting hockey sticks outside the doors of homes, because "the boys might need it". Contributions have also come in from a number of current and former National Hockey League players including Drew Doughty, Shawn Horcoff, and Tyler Bozak.
