Delhi Daredevils beat Mumbai Indians

Roy forged some crucial partnerships with other batters which helped Delhi taste success in their third match of the season.

Needing 11 off the final over, Roy hit a cover drive for four in the first ball followed by a six over fine leg. Iyer failed to score off the last two balls of the 19 over, but said that he and Roy were confident of scoring the necessary 11 runs in the final over.

Not in fine fettle after facing two successive defeats, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be forced to go down memory lane when they welcome their most successful captain Gautam Gambhir, who is now in charge of Delhi Daredevils (DD), in an Indian Premier League (IPL) game between the two teams here at the Eden Gardens on Monday. However, Jason Roy (91*) made his intentions very clear from the outset. However, with the former's failures in the previous games, Gambhir and Co may have run out of patience and made a decision to give the English opener a chance.

Narine was exceptional against SRH on Saturday, conceding just 17 runs in four overs and also taking the timely wickets of Wriddhiman Saha, who looked good for his 15-ball 24 and in-form Shikhar Dhawan (7). After Pant fell, Glenn Maxwell came and attacked in his six-ball knock before being brilliantly caught by Hardik Pandya at long-off. "The comeback was superb by the bowlers", said Iyer who remained unbeaten on 27 with Roy till the end.

Summary: Mumbai Indians scored a mammoth 194 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets with SA Yadav (53 runs off 32 balls), E Lewis (48 runs off 28 balls) and Ishan Kishan (44 off 23 balls) firing from the top.

With a star studded bowling line up including T20 stars Mustafizur Rahman and Jasprit Bumrah and a 194-run total to defend, odds were heavily stacked in favour of Mumbai. Playing their second home game, Yadav and Lewis got Mumbai off to a flyer. Mumbai Indians' batting, for the first time in the tournament, clicked with Suryakumar Yadav leading the way with a whirlwind fifty. Spinner Rahul Tewatia applied the brakes and send Lewis back, who was caught by Jason Roy at mid-off.

Tewatia then trapped Surya in front of the wicket as Mumbai lost two quick wickets. Nagarkoti's injury which ruled him out from the IPL will also hurt Kolkata.

Sunrisers Hyderabad was led by Kane Williamson and Kolkata Knight Riders were led by Dinesh Karthik. Put in to bat, KKR resumed batting on 52/1 after the rain stopped and scored 138/8.

Its also high time that Karthik backs his skill and makes an impact before questions are raised about his captaincy as he would be under huge pressure in one of the biggest tests of his career. Rishabh Pant stepped in at No.3 and complemented Roy. Roy-Pant were dominating the Mumbai bowlers with Hardik Pandya, Akila Dananjaya and Mayank Markande being hit all over the park.
