Uber rolls out new features for biking, car-sharing, and more

"Uber values driver-partners and we are always looking to enhance their experience while saving on their costs, in order for them to make the most from their small businesses".

Kingsway will offer preferential discounts to drivers operating on the Uber app as well as a 30 per cent discount on all service related products.

"Having a greater variety of transportation modes at your fingertips helps make it increasingly easy to live without a auto", he said. Jump bikes are integrated with the GPS and payment system-unlike docked bike share programs that put that tech in its docking stations. JUMP is a dockless electric bike service that has rolled out in San Francisco, where it has a small presence with 250 bikes, and Washington, DC.

Update: Khosrowshahi's comments came during a transport forum.

Uber has announced that San Franciscans will soon be able to reserve electric bikes using the auto sharing app. Uber Rent will allow users to rent nearby cars from established vehicle sharing service Getaround right from the Uber app, the companies announced today in a press release.

Khosrowshahi said the new plans would help Uber offer solutions for an increasingly urban world population and reduce the need for vehicle ownership.

The ride-sharing startup on Wednesday unveiled a slew of new services aimed at giving users more modes of transportation through its app.

It's part of a push to make Uber a platform for transportation options.

The new app in India is now available to select driver partners in Kochi and courier partners in Chennai and will be rolled out in a phased manner across the country over the coming months, Uber said in a statement.

To start, the firm is launching a pilot program called Uber Rent later this month in San Francisco. It is also partnering with Masabi, a public transit ticketing company, so that commuters can book rides on buses and trains using the Uber app.

The move is a part of a greater effort to offer vehicle ownership alternatives and expand Uber's transportation options.

The service will be labeled Uber Rent. The service will also include integration of transit maps and schedule information in selected cities. Under Khosrowshahi, Uber is attempting to build an image of a company that's not just open to working with cities, but one that proactively does so.
