Kevin Durant Will Reportedly Restructure Contract With Warriors

He can sign a two-year deal with a 2019-20 player option in which the first-year earnings would be $30 million and the option year worth $31.5 million increasing the salary cap from $101 million (2018-19) to $108 million (2019-20).

Golden State Warriors' All-Star forward Kevin Durant has reportedly made a decision to decline his player option for the 2018-19 season, thus making him an unrestricted free agent this summer, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes.

According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, Durant plans to opt out of his contract in the upcoming summer free agency period to restructure his contract with the Warriors - which either means Durant wants more money from Golden State, or is going to take another pay cut, which is scary for the rest of the league.

However, as reported by ESPN, the decision to become an unrestricted free agent does not mean Durant will leave Golden State, as the 29-year-old will instead restructure his deal with the reigning National Basketball Association champions.

The reigning NBA Finals MVP won his first title with Warriors past year.

Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant (35) dribbles the ball against the Utah Jazz at Vivint Smart Home Arena. That said, Durant has no intentions of leaving the Bay Area.

Unfortunately for the rest of the league, there is nearly no chance Durant opts out in search of a change of scenery.

To do so, the 2017 National Basketball Association champions will have to pay Durant considerably more than over the last two years but they have a number of options at their disposal.

A four-year max contract for $158 million ($39.5 million average annual value, with each year's salary rising). He has morphed into Golden State's best rim protector and is adding 1.8 blocks per game.

Durant is earning much less than what a player of his caliber should be getting.

The Warriors - the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, 7 1/2 games back of the top-seeded Rockets - will open the playoffs this weekend against the seventh-seeded Thunder.
