Bill Cosby Paid $3.38 Million to Settle Past Sexual Assault Claim

The defence in Bill Cosby's sexual assault retrial is expected to use its opening statement on Tuesday to portray a $3.4 million settlement paid to the woman he's charged with sexually assaulting as evidence of her greed. Also emblazoned on her body was the words "Women's Lives Matter".

Nicolle Rochelle, 38, (aka Nicole Leach) wasn't afraid to bare all when she showed up topless to protest outside of the Montgomery County courthouse in Philadelphia, PA on April 9, where Bill Cosby's sexual assault retrial was taking place.

She says she wanted to make Cosby "uncomfortable".

During his opening statement to jurors at Cosby's sexual assault retrial, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said the $3.4 million payment was meant to silence Constand after she accused Cosby of sexually assaulting her at his home in Cheltenham, Pa.

The now frail and isolated 80-year-old could spend the rest of his life behind bars if convicted of drugging and molesting former university employee Andrea Constand at his Philadelphia home in 2004.

Former model Janice Dickinson is one of the new witnesses, who claims Bill Cosby knocked her out with a pill and raped her in Lake Tahoe in 1982, when she was 27 and Cosby was 45.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele had the first chance to reveal the eye-popping sum to jurors Monday and hopes it will convince them Cosby made the substantial payment after calculating Constand likely would have prevailed had her civil lawsuit gone to trial. Judge Steven O'Neill interviewed all 12 jurors in a private conference with the attorneys.

"We're very confident that you all will be able to do justice in this case", Steele told the jury. Nicolle Rochelle, 39, had appeared on several episodes of The Cosby Show when she was a teenager, but now was streaking in solidarity, she said, with the star's victims.

Cosby seemed startled by the commotion as a half-dozen protesters chanted at him. But he says more is needed to ensure Cosby's safety, telling The Associated Press, "You never know who's going to want to make a name for themselves". She said that nothing inappropriate had happened on the set with Cosby. Over the past few years, about 60 women have come forward with allegations against Cosby dating to the 1960s.

The accuser in the case, Andrea Constand, 44, is one of more than 50 women who have accused him of sexual assaults, some dating back decades. The case was declared a mistrial past year after the jury failed to reach a verdict following six days of deliberation.

Cosby, who has said the sex with Constand was consensual, was greeted by a handful of supporters, who shouted encouragement to him.

The first trial took just six days, with jurors deliberating for another 52 hours before deciding they could not reach a unanimous verdict. For the second time in 10 months the town has become inundated with media and protesters drawn to the trial of one of America's most famous - and once beloved - comedians.
