Steve Spurrier returns to coaching sidelines in Orlando

"We don't have a minor league of professional football".

"Well, we're not just bringing professional football to town, we're bringing the Head Ball Coach with us, a true Florida legend". The league is set to launch in February, 2019.

The Alliance of American Football league has its first major hire. With the Bandits, he got his first taste of head coaching in the upstart United States Football League (USFL), and he made "BanditBall" a favored alternative to the still-woeful Buccaneers, reeling in the USFL's top attendance and going 35-21 before the league dissolved after its third season amid certain owners' efforts to compete directly with the NFL.

The games will be available to stream on a free app, on CBS and CBS Sports Network.

The Alliance of American Football league named Spurrier head coach of a new professional league team based in Orlando. The first game and the championship game will be carried by CBS.

Longtime NFL executive Bill Polian, now an ESPN analyst, is also on board to help Ebersol launch his fledgling league. If not, the other team has the ball in prime field position.

The league, started by TV executive Charlie Ebersol and former NFL front office executive Bill Polian, will field several teams across the country.

Spurrier is the winningest coach all-time at both SC and Florida and also led Duke to an ACC title. "Those players get a chance to continue playing even if they don't play at the highest level, and then maybe someday they play well enough to go to the highest level". Advisers to the league also will include former NFL players Hines Ward and Justin Tuck. The player side will be overseen by former Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, and the team side will be guided by former Southern California standout and executive J.K. McKay. I mean, that's something we want to bring to our league. In ten seasons in Columbia, Spurrier's teams went 86-49, capturing the SEC East once in 2010. Starting on April 17, fans will be able to put down season-ticket deposits on the league's website.
