Cold Saturday, Snow on Sunday

This storm system would pull in some warmer air with highs in the 50s and, at this time, only rain showers are expected. The clear sky and dry air in place will allow temperatures to quickly tumble, as we're tracking the possibility of some record breaking cold for Saturday morning. This mix will turn over to more snow throughout the morning hours bringing some slushy conditions to roadways and a coating to many grassy and elevated areas. A Weather Alert Day has been issued for Saturday as a strong cold front sweeps across the Carolinas.

The day started out pretty well, but increasing clouds and a few showers indicate a change. Areas on the Peninsulas, Eastern Shore, and closer to I-95 have the best chance of seeing snow. We have a 70 percent chance of scattered rain showers throughout the day.

Winds will be heaviest near the coast Saturday morning, with sustained winds of 20 mph to 30 mph and gusts to 40 mph.

Highs will be in the upper-30s on Monday and slowly climb into the mid-40s by Thursday. Winds will be strong with the storm. Daytime highs will be in the mid 50's throughout the weekend. We will need to watch for a changeover from rain to sleet/snow by late afternoon and evening as the temperatures drop. Highs will be back into the low 40s on Monday and the mid 40s by Tuesday.
