Loss officially takes Pistons out of playoff picture

The Pistons playoff hopes were dashed by the streaking 76ers Wednesday night in Detroit.

Philadelphia 76ers' Markelle Fultz drives to the basket against Brooklyn Nets' DeMarre Carroll.

Philadelphia was in action at home against the Nets in a matchup of Atlantic Division teams Tuesday night.

The Philadelphia 76ers look to keep the ball rolling while building on their 10-game winning streak.

The 76ers just might be in the midst of something special. Despite this, Simmons is on another level all together, and could be far too much for Jackson to handle at both ends of the floor. His 11 triple-doubles is good enough for third in the league, trailing only Russell Westbrook and LeBron James. Ben Simmons had 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists. The Philadelphia 76ers are shooting 36.6 percent from beyond the arc and 75.6 percent from the free throw line. Instead, they let him work through his shoulder injury and shooting struggles after the first four games of the season, resulting in what ended up being a 61-game absence.

Needing a win to stay mathematically in the hunt, the Pistons fell flat soon after the tip and went behind as many as 19 in the second quarter in Detroit midweek. He was 10-of-13 from the field, 5-of-7 from downtown and finished with 25 points and six assists.

Pistons forward Anthony Tolliver led the team in scoring against the Sixers with 25 points. The Pistons pulled within five points (112-107) on Reggie Bullock's 3-pointer with 21.4 seconds left. Leuer has been out since October 31 with a sprained ankle: he could be done for the year after surgery. Marco Belinelli supplied 9 of his 19 points in the fourth, while Redick added 7.

76ers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs.

The eight teams for the National Basketball Association playoffs in the Eastern Conference are set. First of all though, the Pistons have to take care of their own business right now.

The 76ers were in control all night, despite playing on the second leg of a back to back set. Through three quarters, they held Detroit to 39.7 percent shooting, and had forced 15 turnovers. Sixers center Joel Embiid remained sidelined by a concussion and orbital fracture, while power forward Dario Saric is recovering from an elbow infection. Their 13-26 record away is woeful, but at home they are sitting at 24-14, akin to sides like Boston and OKC.

Saric also sat out Sunday's game against the Charlotte Hornets with the same issue.

The Sixers are on a hot streak, having won 12 in a row. The top eight teams make the playoffs.

"He's always calculated about his decision-making process going back to his youth", he said (h/t Slam's Ryne Nelson).
