Arsenal thrash CSKA Moscow 4 - 1 in Europa League quarter final clash

The competition offers Arsenal their only realistic chance of securing Champions League football for next season and on this evidence they will take some beating, as they swept their visitors aside with consummate ease on Thursday.

The Gunners took the lead inside nine minutes through Aaron Ramsey, but were pegged back not long after by a superb free-kick from Aleksandr Golovin.

But one of the Gunners' early goals trumped the lot... and then some.

And it was this determination that they showed just 9 minutes after kickoff as Hector Bellerin fed the ball through to Aaron Ramsey, who picked up the pass inside the box and quickly drilled it into the roof of the net, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

The goal certainly got the reaction it deserved on social media. Alexandre Lacazette stepped up and converted the spot-kick.

Arsenal were rampant and a fourth arrived in the 35th minute, as Lacazette joined Ramsey in getting a second, finding the bottom-left corner with a smart finish after a well-placed cut-back from the huge Ozil.

In the 23rd minute, Arsenal were afforded an opportunity to take the lead when they awarded a penalty after Mesut Ozil was brought down.

Ramsey went close to completing his hat-trick in the 77 minute but the Welshman's effort crashed against the crossbar with Akinfeev well beaten.
