Overwatch's Uprising Event Returns For 2018, New Content Teased

The seasonal event will also feature the return of more than 100 loot box items that reveal the stories of the original members of Overwatch, while bringing in some new items for the second run.

Blizzard Entertainment will launch this year's "Uprising" event on April 20 as "Overwatch" will have to work together to stop Null Sector from destroying Kingsrow. To achieve this, the company is organizing small grassroots events that give players who want to play professionally a venue to show their skills, as well as draw in audiences who might not be familiar with the sport.

You can look over what was included in last year's Uprising event through the Overwatch website. Teams finishing in the top four of the Open Division have the opportunity to progress to their region's Contenders Trials, where they can fight for a spot in Contenders, the tier of competition just beneath the Overwatch League itself.

So far, we don't have any confirmed information about Uprising beyond the date, but it's likely Blizzard will release more next week. Blackwatch was the covert operations arm of Overwatch before it was shut down and suspended for suspicious activity. This was wildly successful the first time around, with the Google Trends tracking of Overwatch showing that the game hasn't reached a popularity equal to the last one since it ended. We get to hear Soldier: 76 before he lost everything, and get reminded that Reaper was at one point not only a good guy, but a rank above Morrison. The both of them came to blows a year before Overwatch's disbandment (roughly six years ago), and are believed to have died in Overwatch's Swiss headquarters.
