Marvel's 'Black Panther' is Now the Highest Grossing Superhero Movie Ever

While Panther may be dethroned this week, moviegoers still have plenty of time to see T'Challa in action for weeks to come, including in the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War alongside the likes of Iron Man and Thor when the film debuts on April 27th. This should prove unequivocally that Hollywood can open up movies with predominantly non-white talent and still be succcessful at the box office.

DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win" might as well be the theme music for Black Panther's box office journey. Especially since Black Panther is only in its sixth week of release and its box office bounty is sure to grow.

Marvel's Black Panther has become even more of a box office giant than any of the industry's wildest predictions and expectations.

Black Panther has become the highest grossing superhero ever in the U.S., with profits in excess of $630 million (£445.6 million), outstripping the original Avengers movie which conquered cinema in 2012. Still, it points to the biceps on director Ryan Coogler's action flick, which premiered February 16. and is still showing in almost 4,000 theaters.

Black Panther is expected to have earned $630.9 million by the end of the weekend, rocketing past The Avengers' final cume of $623 million. Only seven films have ever even passed the $600 million mark in this market, so it was already in pretty rare company.

That's a feat only ever matched by Avatar, the highest-grossing movie of all time. And as if that weren't enough, T'Challa's Wednesday gross of $3M overseas lifted the Walt Disney Studios 2018 worldwide box office past $1B.

It was obvious from the first weekend that Marvel was going to make Black Panther 2. And considering how successful the movie has been so far, Marvel would be remiss if they didn't try everything to bring Coogler back for a second film.
