Dec to host Saturday Night Takeaway without Ant after drink-drive arrest

But the dad-of-three fears his dedication could be in vain after the show's future was put in jeopardy following Ant's arrest on Sunday afternoon.

A dad is gutted after his family persuaded him to get a Saturday Night Takeaway tattoo done to win a TV competition - hours before Ant was arrested for drink-driving.

Ant, also 42, has returned to rehab after being arrested for drink driving on Sunday after crashing his Mini in to another vehicle, resulting in a 4-year-old child being taken to hospital.

"[Dec is] devastated for his mate - he is anxious that the Ant and Dec brand is being irreparably damaged - it's the second time round".

After video footage of him ploughing his auto into another vehicle went viral yesterday, Ant McPartlin of Ant & Dec fame is stepping down from his ITV show to seek treatment for his addiction issues.

McPartlin's publicist confirmed the troubled star has made a decision to "go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments".

'Whilst I never thought I'd be in this position, after much discussion and careful consideration we've decided that the remaining two shows of this series of Saturday Night Takeaway will go ahead, ' Dec, 42, wrote in his message.

And questions linger over whether they will continue to co-host Britain's Got Talent and I'm a Celebrity.

He added: "I've known Ant for a very long time, a great down to Earth lad".

In fact, she's already the bookies' favourite to take over presenting duties, having been with the show for two years.

And in today's Ant & Dec news, we bring you this.

This incident comes after a hard year for McPartlin, who has publicly spoken about his battle with alcohol and addiction to prescription drugs.

'It's Dec I feel sorry for more than Ant because Ant is in control of his own behaviour and is making bad choices.

Career One said: "Dec needs to go it alone in order to save his career, he's done nothing wrong, he's not a captain, he shouldn't go down with the ship". He's devastated for his mate but he's also anxious about the Ant & Dec brand, it's the biggest in the country on television.

Yesterday the Heart Facebook page asked fans if Dec should go solo or pick a new partner. and over half said they would prefer to see the Geordie icon go it alone.

"I think the time has come, given it's the second time around now in the last 18's not selfish but he has to look after himself, too".
