Nun in legal battle with Katy Perry dies in court

As FOX 11 reported on the legal battle between local nuns and Katy Perry over a Los Feliz convent, we learned that one of the nuns involved in the case collapsed and died Friday during a court proceeding related to the case.

Sister Catherine lived in the convent in Los Feliz with another nun for four decades and, in 2015, she'd tried to sell the property to restaurant owner Dana Hollister, who meant to turn the convent into a hotel.

The deceased nun, a member of The Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, had not lived in the empty facility for several years, after the Catholic Diocese pulled funding for the expensive property.

Hollister, a successful restauranteur, looked to turn the property into a boutique hotel, while Perry sought a private residence for her mother and grandmother.

She issued a direct plea to the singer, saying: "To Katy Perry, please stop". "It's not doing anyone any good [and it's] hurting a lot of people".

Sister Catherine previously spoke out against selling the property to the "Roar" hitmaker, insisting that Katy was the wrong person to maintain the convent's legacy.

"Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, IHM passed away suddenly today at the age of 89".

The singer agreed to buy the eight-acre property and its Roman villa-style buildings for $14.5m (£10.4m) in 2015, but the deal failed when its former residents objected. Instead, they wanted to sell it to restaurauter Dana Hollister.

Apparently, the Immaculate Heart's Sister Rita Callahan was less than thrilled with lyrics such as "let you put your hands on me in my skintight jeans" from Perry's smash hit, "Teenage Dream".

Following her death, Archbishop José Gomez released a statement about Holzman, even though he did not side with her decision to sell the property three years ago. They occupied it until 2011 before they were forced to move out by the archdiocese.

According to reports, Perry showed them a tattoo on her wrist that had Jesus written on it and sang them a hymn. "She had nothing to do with forcing herself on us", Holzman told Fox.

"Katy Perry represents everything we don't believe in", Holzman said in the interview.
