Marine Le Pen to reveal new name for National Front

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon, a champion of Donald Trump's "America First" agenda, will address the National Front's party congress on Saturday, a senior official of the French anti-immigrant party said.

Shortly afterwards, Aliot, tweeted a photograph of him shaking hands with Bannon, who he wrote "represents rejection of the establishment of which one of the worst symbols is the European Union in Brussels", The Guardian reported.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Bannon was a close ally and confidante of Trump, and he joined the West Wing staff as Trump's chief strategist.

Despite being ousted from his White House post past year and feuding with Trump in recent months, Bannon praised the president's "economic nationalism" that he said "does not care about your race, your religion, your ethnicity".

Bannon's appearance at the National Front congress comes as Le Pen aims to revive the party, nine months after she was defeated by centrist Emmanuel Macron in the presidential election.

Le Pen is expected to make the proposal at a party congress in Lille on Sunday and members will vote on it by mail ballot. "He has understood like Trump, Matteo Salvini and Marine Le Pen the wish of the people to control their own destiny", he tweeted.

He will address France's right-wing National Front and meet its leader Marine Le Pen after similar meetings in Italy and Switzerland. The 89-year-old was expelled from the party in 2015 for repeatedly downplaying the Holocaust, however a court overruled his expulsion. "Let them call you nativists", he said.

While Le Pen is facing no immediate threat of overthrow - she is expected to be re-elected unopposed as party president - her father, Jean-Marie, who was thrown out of the FN for racist remarks, continues to snipe from the sidelines. "She's one of the most impressive people in the entire world", Bannon told reporters without mentioning his host Marine Le Pen.

However, Le Pen's credibility is among the potential obstacles to a possible far-right comeback: An annual poll published this week by the Kantar-Sofres-One Point firm showed Le Pen scoring lower on numerous questions. Let them call you xenophobes.

Speaking today at the conference, leader of the FN, Marine Le Pen, said: "Our individual and collective commitments go towards a cause that is greater than us".

He also praised Le Pen's vision of a political spectrum that is no longer left- right but nationalists versus globalists. Every day, we become stronger and they become weaker.

"Today's politics can not be summed up by the left-right divide".

Bannon met Marion, who temporarily withdrew from politics after her aunt's presidential election defeat last May, at the CPAC conservative conference in Maryland last month, where he said she was "absolutely electrifying".
