BMW M8 Gran Coupe Concept revealed

Accordingly, BMW has brought with it to the Geneva Motor Show a new, extravagant, dramatically designed concept.

BMW has officially confirmed that the i Vision Dynamics concept that was shown in Frankfurt past year will become reality, and will be known as the BMW i4 when it enters into series production.

Like the BMW Concept 8 Series before it, the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe shows off BMW's new design language, headlined by expressive surfacing that accentuates the car's dynamism more vividly than before through its bodywork.

Frustratingly, since all the M8 Gran Coupe Concept is, is a design study, BW didn't offer any technical details.

Time will tell. The 8 Series Coupe is due in road-ready form later this year, and the Gran Coupe is scheduled for release in 2019.

This vehicle, moreover, represents "a new facet of luxury: extremely sporty, extravagant and polarizing", according to chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk.

Like other M cars, the roof is made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic allowing the centre of gravity to stay low, the flared rear wheel arches give the thing the look of a crouching animal, and even the wing mirrors have been "optimised" for air flow.

The long wheelbase of the concept is nearly dwarfed by the large features of the front fascia, meant to communicate a sense of performance, with the sleek line of the greenhouse skipping the flat plane roof of the 7-Series. The model will also go up against the Porsche Panamera.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design said: "The BMW 8 Series will be the new leader in the BMW range, combining the highest levels of sportiness and elegance".

The Concept M8 Gran Coupe shows off the latest BMW design elements, some of which might make production; the large coupe/sedan features a huge front fascia with exaggerated everything and a fastback profile leading to a duck-tail trunk lid.
