Suit: Google, YouTube Worked Against Hiring White, Asian Men

The lawsuit was filed in a California court by Arne Wilberg, who worked at Google and YouTube for about nine years. USA Today is reporting that Arnie Wilberg, who was a recruiter for YouTube alleges that management also deleted emails and other records of diversity requirements. The paper notes that 69% of Google's employees are men, while 91% of the company's workforce is white or Asian-a number that's stayed relatively the same for the past three years.

According to Wilberg's lawsuit, Google's human-resources department began investigating YouTube's hiring practices in the spring of 2016. In another email, the same manager wrote, "We should only consider L3s from our underrepresented groups".

A Google spokeswoman said the company will vigorously defend itself against the lawsuit. "We have a clear policy to hire candidates based on their merit, not their identity", a spokesman said.

The company is now facing two other gender based lawsuits, one alleging it discriminates against woman and another arguing discrimination against conservative white men.

A few months back, James Damore, a former Google employee, claimed that he was sacked for writing an anti-diversity memo, which triggered loads of controversy both within and outside the organization.

When James Damore posted an inflammatory memo to an internal Google message board last year, he unleashed a bitterness that had seemingly been simmering beneath the surface of Silicon Valley for years.

"Damore, Gudeman, and other class members were ostracized, belittled, and punished for their heterodox political views, and for the added sin of their birth circumstances of being Caucasians and/or males", Damore's lawsuit said. The lawsuit, filed in January in California's San Mateo County Superior Court, claims Wilberg was sacked by Google in retaliation for complaining to human resources about the company's hiring practices, the news agency reported. In the lawsuit, Loretta Lee, a former software engineer, noted that she faced lewd comments, pranks, and even physical violence from colleagues. Last week, Tim Chevalier, a former engineer, sued Google for wrongful termination over pro-diversity comments he made criticizing white privilege. Earlier this year, a lawsuit alleged that the company has failed to do enough for female workers and racial minorities.
