MWC: Alcatel Unveils New Cheap Phones That Don't Look Cheap At All

The main highlight of the Alcatel 5 is the integration of face unlocking mechanism paired with dual front camera sensors. While Alcatel is known for offering low-priced smartphones in the Western markets, the company also launched a few devices in the Indian market.

It's the end of February, and if you follow the technology news with a keen interest, you know exactly what that means: it's time for the world's biggest smartphone show, as manufacturers of all things portable and mobile-y come together to talk about what they have in store for the first half of the year.

The model with 2 GB of RAM features Face Key, a camera-based facial recognition feature. Under the hood, there's a quad-core processor packed with up to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Alcatel 3V comes with a larger 6-inch 2K (2160 X 1080 pixels) IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The 6-inch 3V, 5.7-inch 3X and 5.5-inch 3 have numerous same features as the Alcatel 5, such as facial recognition.

The firm claimed the 1X is the first sub €100 (€99.99) device to feature an 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a 5.3 inch display, a 13/8 MP camera (depending on region), a 5 MP selfie camera, quad core processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a micro SD card slot. With EUR 150 price tag, the device offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

Note: Some variants of the device are reported to run standard Android Oreo (not the Go edition that is the subject of this article) and have upgraded specs (more megapixels on the camera, increased memory, fingerprint scanner, NFC... etc). As far as the cameras are concerned, the Alcatel 1X packs a 8-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies.

The company also launched two budget tablets running Android Oreo. It also includes Google Assistant for Android Go. The Alcatel 3X will be available starting April at a price of 179.99 euros (approximately Rs 14,300) in color choices of Metallic Black, Blue, and Gold. As seen on the Alcatel 3, the Alcatel 3V also comes with the glossy finish body. Other features include a 3,000mAh battery, fingerprint reader, and Android Oreo. It will be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The Alcatel 1X with single SIM and dual SIM support will be available in April for Euro 100 and Euro 110 respectively. It includes a 5MP front and back cameras, 16GB expandable storage, 1GB RAM, quad-core MediaTek MT8321 processor and 4000mAh battery.

The first is to the screen - the 7-inch display only offers a 1280 x 600 pixel count, which will appear about as sharp given it's squished in a little, and it doesn't offer the Eye Care feature. A powerful 2460mAh battery supplies the required power.
