Who is the UK's Eurovision 2018 entry SuRie?

A singer from Bishop's Stortford will represent the United Kingdom at this year's Eurovision.

She describes the song as "a smash" and says it is an 'anthemic, soulful pop party'.

SuRie (real name Susanna Marie) began writing songs when she was just 12 years old and has performed for the likes of HRH Prince Charles in iconic British venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and St. Paul's Cathedral and at venues all around the world, including St. Mark's Basilica in Venice.

The singer has attended the competition twice before as a backing vocalist, first for Belgian contestant Loïc Nottet in Vienna in 2015, and then for another Belgian act, Blanche, in Kiev in 2017.

It's such an honour to have the opportunity to represent a country I'm very, very proud of.

She has also sung backing vocals for acts such as Coldplay's Chris Martin and Will Young and appeared in the musical Les Miserables.

She received the biggest cheer of the night from the live crowd in Brighton who began chanting her name after she was named victor by presenter Mel Giedroyc.

The singer was crowned the victor of Eurovision You Decide on BBC2, and will now go on to fly the flag for the United Kingdom at the Grand Final with her track, Storm, in Portugal in May.

The UK act for this year's Eurovision Song Contest has been chosen. "I normally like to be left alone for a few moments so I can calmly collect my thoughts and ensure I'm on the right spot at the right time, singing the right lyrics and that I haven't forgotten to put clothes on..."
