Black Live Matter Activist, Muhiyidin d'Baha Murdered In New Orleans

Last February, a news camera recorded Moye jumping through police tape in Charleston, South Carolina, as he tried to take a protester's large Confederate battle flag before being tackled by police and arrested.

Moye, who also used the last name d'Baha, has been noted as the leader of a local Black Lives Matter group in Charleston. New Orleans Police Department officials told reporters "the incident is the subject of an active and ongoing investigation". It's reported that he was shot while riding his bicycle.

The victim, a 32-year-old man known as Moya, was a BLM activist from Charleston, South Carolina. He was transported to the hospital, where he died later that morning, according to police spokesman Beau Tidwell. "We don't have many details, but will update as soon as we do", she wrote.

Muhiyidin d'Baha at a January 2016 press conference advocating against the release of former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager.

Other known local activists, including Pastor Thomas Dixon, have taken to social media to express their condolences and share news of Moye's death.

"We are lost right now", said Moye's sister Kimberli Duncan."But we are going to find our way".

Walter Scott's brother, Anthony Scott, said D'Baha helped their family get justice after the shooting of his brother, according to the station.

A GoFundMe account made by Weaver has received over $18,000, exceeding its goal of $7,500.

His family started a GoFundMe page asking people for support for his funeral services and the campaign has so far, in less than one day, received nearly double the set goal of US$7500.

Weaver has reached out to thank donors for helping her family at a hard time, writing: "I can say that our family is beyond appreciative for the outpouring of love and support we've received today".
