Unhappy with Union Budget, BJP ally TDP calls emergency meeting of MPs

Voicing out their opinion against the injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh, TDP MPs of AP have protested on Monday against Union Government's step-motherly treatment to the state.

TDP President Naidu will hold a meeting of party's Parliamentary Committee in Amaravati and will meet senior MLAs and leaders to review ties with the ruling BJP.

Naidu is upset with the allocation of funds for the state in the Union Budget 2018 despite its request for additional funds. The dissatisfaction of TDP leaders starts coming over the budget hardly a week after Naidu hinted at breaking alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He also hinted that the party politburo will once again sit and decide on whether to continue the alliance with BJP and to continue on NDA or not.

Naidu made a decision to "wait and watch" following a telephone call from Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who requested the TDP chief not to take any drastic political call till BJP chief Amit Shah looked into the issues raised by him. "We were asked to raise the issue and we will not rest till justice is done to the State", K Ramamohan Naidu, TDP MP from Srikakulam said. "All this was discussed", Chowdary said.

Another senior Andhra BJP leader confirmed that some top ministers are directly in touch with them and discussions are on. They (the Centre) have done some of the things that had been promised, but much more needs to be done. "We have already taken up the issues with the Union finance minister, railway minister (on setting up a railway zone in Visakhapatnam)".

The almost three-hour-long meeting, which ended at 8.30 p.m., discussed in detail the meagre allocations made to the state in the budget despite repeated demands for last four years to fulfill the commitments made at the time of the state's division.

Chandrababu Naidu and TDP chief said his party is ready to chart its own course if the BJP is not keen to continue with the alliance.

Naidu's party is third only to the BJP and Shiv Sena in the NDA in terms of seats won in parliament.
