Akshay Kumar Talks Periods

As we all know, the film is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a Tamil Nadu-based social activist who revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-priced sanitary napkins machine.

Akshay's "Pad Man" - which marks his wife Twinkle Khanna's maiden production venture - tells the story of a real-life superhero who invented a low-priced sanitary pad manufacturing machine to bring a menstrual hygiene revolution for women. Mr Muruganantham took the initiative to provide better menstrual hygiene conditions for the women of his family and those who could not afford sanitary pads. Interestingly, Twinkle had written about Arunachalam in a story titled the The Sanitary Man from a Sacred Land in her second book - The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad.

As Padman starrer Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte is going to hit the silver screen on 9th Feb 2018. Pad Man, releasing that day, aims to raise the curtain on all myths, taboos and beliefs around periods and menstrual hygiene, which have held women and girls back from empowerment for centuries. "Have you seen men discuss menstrual hygiene?" Akshay took to twitter to share the information as the screening happened in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of shame associated with the topic of menstruation in India.

"No, there were no disagreements".

Arunachalam Muruganantham, the social entrepreneur, who is an inspiration behind the film will also be there at the screening.

"I never thought a film will be made on my life and my work".

Radhika who was among the first few actors who experimented with various platforms and formats of cinema talked about the boom of web series and short films.

The film is slated to open in India on Friday.

If you are wondering who involved the Dangal star in the promotions, then let us tell you that it was his Mela co- star Twinkle Khanna who challenged him in the first place.
