Adam Lallana sent off for manhandling Spurs player during U23 game

Tottenham's George Marsh, 19, collided with the 29-year-old in an aerial challenge and to say Lallana didn't take too kindly to it would be an understatement.

Lallana has started only one game for Jurgen Klopp's first team this term, after missing the first half of the campaign with a thigh injury suffered in pre-season.

On the comeback trail to regaining full fitness, Adam Lallana found himself turning-out for the Liverpool U-23s tonight.

The midfielder was sent off in the 63rd minute with Spurs leading 1-0, after reacting angrily to a challenge from Marsh.

He needed to be pulled back by his teammates as the referee showed him a straight red card.

"I've never seen Adam react like that", said under-23 manager Neil Critchley.

Lallana will be allowed to play for the senior team as the rule states that the ban will only be served at the U23 level.

Youngster Ben Woodburn, who came close to leave on loan in January, is also likely to feature against Spurs.

A first team debut could be a couple of years away for the 18-year-old, but there will be better nights for the under-23s for him ahead.

The young Reds ended the game with just nine men after George Johnston picked up a second yellow card late on.
