Patriots 23, Eagles 17.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is on the verge of possibly adding a sixth Super Bowl victory to his resume on Sunday, but his third NFL MVP may already be in the bag.

Even at 40, Brady put up another spectacular season in spite of the fact that one of his primary targets, wide receiver Julian Edelman, suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason. Should Brady actually win, it would be the third of his career and only Peyton Manning, at five, would have more.

The four-time Super Bowl MVP of the New England Patriots also took the regular-season award in 2007 and 2010.

It was the 10th time in the past 11 seasons that a quarterback won the award, a streak broken only by Adrian Peterson in 2012.

According to ESPN, the 40-year-old quarterback shattered NFL records for the 2017 season, playing some of the best football in his 18-year career.

The Patriots quarterback was announced as the victor during Saturday's NFL Honors show in Minneapolis the night before Super Bowl 52. That easily outdistanced Rams running back Todd Gurley with eight, and Eagles QB Carson Wentz with two. Brown caught 101 passes for a league-high 1,533 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games this season to help the Steelers win the AFC North. Barry Bonds was 40 years, 4 months when he won baseball's MVP award in 2004.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick spoke highly of Brady leading up to the Super Bowl.

Tom Brady is stirring controversy over a kiss again.

In addition to the MVP Award, Brady was also voted first-team All-Pro.

An NFL staff member was noticed Thursday standing near Patriots press conferences carrying a sheet of paper that had "Tom Brady acceptance speech".
