Uma Thurman explains her anger at Harvey Weinstein
Feb 04, 2018, 02:16
Thurman, 47, told The New York Times in an interview published Saturday of two incidents in London that took place after the release of 1994's "Pulp Fiction". In an article by Maureen Dowd in the New York Times, the actress recounts a history of complicity by herself and others, and of being taken advantage of, over and over again.
Thurman also told Dowd that, as she relived her experiences with Weinstein, she also drudged up another painful memory. Now, the truth is out.
According to Thurman, she was asked to do the driving in the famous scene of her in Kill Bill but was tipped off by a crewmember that the vehicle might not be working well.
Harvey Weinstein has been investigated in both the U.S. and the United Kingdom on multiple allegations of sexual assault, all of which he has denied. "I was ultimately compliant", she said.
"The complicated feeling I have about Harvey is how bad I feel about all the women that were attacked after I was", Thurman said. She recalls, "The steering wheel was at my belly and my legs were jammed under me..."
"I am one of the reasons that a young girl would walk into his room alone, the way I did", Thurman said. "We were in a awful fight for years", she explained. Could she have? And she felt conflicted again that she wasn't a "groundbreaker" on the Weinstein story initially. According to a friend who accompanied her, Thurman came out of the room looking "so upset ..."
Thurman expressed guilt for all the women who accused Weinstein of sexual abuse after, often, being led to his hotel room under the presumption that their meeting with him was about business.
When reached for comment regarding Thurman's allegations, a spokesperson said Weinstein was "saddened and puzzled" by her allegation of assault.
"He tried to shove himself on me". She accuses Weinstein of trying to force himself on her and exposing himself in different hotel rooms. He did all kinds of unpleasant things. The actress said the incident left her in a neck brace and put her professional relationship with Tarantino on shaky ground. She finally returned to the hotel bar to meet Herman but things did not seem to have went well.
"I approached Quentin in very serious terms and told him that he had let Uma down as a director and as a friend", Thurman's husband at the time, Ethan Hawke, told the Times. "She was really shaking".
Brafman says Thurman's statements to the Times "are being carefully examined and investigated" before Weinstein decides whether any legal action against her would be appropriate.
Thurman also accused Tarantino of putting her life at risk by insisting during Kill Bill filming that she drive a stunt auto that she'd been warned wasn't functioning properly. Despite repeatedly insisting she be given footage of the crash, Tarantino and Miramax, Weinstein's production company, refused unless she sign away the right to hold them responsible for "any consequences of [her] future pain and suffering". What really got me about the crash was that it was a cheap shot.
Thurman says when she expressed fear about driving a possibly faulty auto in Tarantino's "Kill Bill: Vol. 1" he insisted.
Tarantino also allegedly enjoyed performing some of the film's more sadistic flourishes himself, including spitting in her face and choking her. But that doesn't exactly undo the damage. She suffered a concussion, a neck injury and severe damage to her knees.
Officials also said the worker had not heard a portion of the exercise that repeatedly declared it was an "exercise". "I was 100 percent sure that it was real", said the man, who had been with his department for more than 11 years.
