President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday said a total of 800 terrorists have been killed in Syria's northwestern Afrin region as part of Turkey's ongoing Operation Olive Branch.

On Friday, at least two people were reportedly killed and 19 injured in attacks on Turkish towns near the border with Syria.

The local White Helmets rescuers and the Observatory said government shelling hit a vehicle carrying civilians fleeing the violence killing seven of them.

It added that another soldier was killed in clashes in Afrin.

According to the message, 74 terrorists have been eliminated today and Operation Olive Branch is being successfully carried out.

Meanwhile, fighting raged on Saturday between Turkish troops and allied Syrian opposition fighters, and a Syrian Kurdish militia in the northern Syrian enclave of Afrin.

"Of course, this number will increase by the evening", said Erdogan, while speaking at Turkish Youth Foundation's gathering at Presidential Complex. The authenticity of the video could not be independently confirmed but it corresponds to events reported by the AP. "There is not much to go", he said. "We have given the necessary response instantly, and we continue to do so", Yildirim said. The suspect who was killed had entered Turkey illegally and received training from a branch of the Syrian Kurdish PYD group, the governor's office said. Turkey considers the YPG a "terrorist" group.

One protester, Suleyman Akguc, told Agence France-Presse: "We want to sound the alarm because the Kurds in Afrin have fought against the Islamic State and are being massacred today".

The offensive by Washington's fellow North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member Ankara on a US-allied force has even raised fears of a military confrontation between two alliance powers.
